Import calendar entry via email?

Ken Maier June 16, 2017

Is there a way to import a calendar entry via an email?

My team shares out of office invites on an outlook distribution list and ideally I would like to get any calendar notices on this distribution list to automatically import into a team calendar.  I am not sure if I can have this go into JIRA first or not.... wondering if anyone has accomplished something like this already.

Hi Ken,

Ideally, each team calendar would have an email address that you could send an email to in order to create a calendar appointment and that email address could be added to the distribution list. Unfortunately, there is a 3+ year request for this feature and no progress so far - https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFSERVER-49160.

That said, one other way to do this might be to:

  • Create a generic user that has an Exchange mailbox solely to sync up with Team Calendars
  • Add that user to the distribution list
  • Login as that user and share out the calendar to create an ics feed
  • In Confluence, add a new Team Calendar (using ubscribe by url) and use the ics url you copied from above

I could provide more details on the specifics of these steps if this seems like a desirable route for you. Others might have other suggestions too.

Thanks,

Marlon
