Hi @Greisita there are some great features in Stride that are not available in Hipchat or Slack.

These are some elements that really stand out:

  • Sidebar, in stride you can place objects in this element in the room which can provide more context and information for users. But also actionable elements that enhace the flow of the app.
  • Glance, it helps the app or bot provide status and display important information for the user such as tasks for projects that users are working on and open issues that need attention.
  • Message Actions, it enables for a user to do a task with a specific message he/she receives in a room. The user can create a task, make a decision or bookmark the message.

On the plus side the mobile application has a much better User Experience in Stride than Hipchat.

I would not worry too much about how long Hipchat will be around. Stride is definitely a more robust product.

If you want to try these features out, please give us feedback on the app we built for Stride.

Hi,

HipChat Cloud was the first real enterprise messaging platform - it made the biggest transformation in how we work that our generation has ever seen. It created a completely new product category called "Group Chat."

Stride is a brand new product - a complete team communication solution built for the future to meet teams' ever-evolving needs in the workplace. It not only has group messaging, but also native voice and video conferencing, and built-in collaboration tools. Stride is reliable, robust, and intelligent - all to help you work better with your team.

With Stride you can:

Bring together people and purpose
Designed to maximize collaboration and minimize distraction, Stride has everything you need to connect to the spark of your working life: your teammates. Come together with group messaging to talk through ideas, share your work, and finalize things in searchable, shared rooms.

Dive into deep work with Focus Mode
Sometimes you need to disconnect to do. Let everyone know when you're heads down on something that requires your complete attention, personally empowering you to unplug when necessary.

Connect with anyone, anywhere with Stride Meetings
The easiest way to talk face-to-face with your teammates now lives right within Stride. Jump into an impromptu video meeting, add any of your coworkers, dial out to your road warriors, or share your screen with just the click of a button. All of your voice and video conferencing needs, handled.

Move things forward with integrated Actions and Decisions
Isolate specific follow-ups by marking any message as an Action or Decision from right within your chat. All these important outcomes live neatly in your sidebar, accessible anytime so you'll never be out of the loop on key decisions or see an important idea pass by.

Hope it helps clarify.

Honestly, not a single thing you have said in this reply actually answers the question of "Why should one pick Stride over Hipchat".  You haven't talked about differences in SDK/API integration. You haven't discussed how external product integration will break or work. You haven't addressed whether there will be differences in things like Windows clients between the two projects. You haven't indicated whether Linux or Mac clients will be impacted.

If we were interested in marketing bullet points, I believe we would be looking at sales pages. None of the marketing feel-good statements you mentioned above will help anyone I know in the decision about whether "Stride or Hipchat are better for my business".

Well Said! Ken.

Hipchat (Cloud) is not going to be developed any more, and is eventually going to be turned off.  At the very least, you'll have to move in the end.

Greisita December 28, 2017

when goes Hipchat end of live? how long can we use it?

You've got plenty of time at the moment - there's no official date and mention of years.

Greisita December 28, 2017

Thank you for your answer Nic, for be sure, we are talking only about Hipchat cloud? Hipchat data center stays the same?

Hi Vickey,

I'm with the HipChat Cloud Support team and I checked with our Bamboo Support Team as well to provide you more clarification on the following:

Due to Bamboo Cloud architecture and the complexity of the underlying infrastructure it is not possible for us to deliver the quality of service and the experience that our customers need. We believe discontinuing Bamboo Cloud is the right decision for our customers as we can now focus on building an optimal cloud experience with Bitbucket Pipelines and continue improving Bamboo Server for large software teams.

On the flip side, the eventual sunsetting of HipChat Cloud is a move for us to be able to provide you with more features only made possible with Stride. We want to deliver a complete communication tool, being the only comms tool right now that allows you to deliver results (via Actions and Decisions), being legit serious about focus (via our Focus mode), and bringing you the power of the Atlassian Suite via our various Integrations.

To conclude, we're shutting down HipChat Cloud, but more like, continuing its legacy and more, with Stride.

Vickey Lepcha January 5, 2018

Hello Ryan,

Thank you for the information. I am already trying STRIDE right now. And I hope to make use of BitBucket Pipelines as well in future.

Thank you for the note again.

Hi all, as a hobby with 4 friends we have created a Facebook Messenger integration to get all your notifications in your messenger.

We recently published it in the marketplace (Marketplace link). If someone here is still looking for a place to easily get your notifications, please feel free to try our plugin. Any feedback will be highly appreciated.

The plugin is still in development, we have really exciting things coming out, but also we could add anything you think it will be useful.

Hope you enjoy the plugin, thanks.

In late breaking news, Hipchat and Stride are both being discontinued in favor of Slack.

So the answer was "not enough" in terms of Stride improvements over Hipchat.

Anyone seen a HipChat bill, transitioned to Stride and seen a Stride bill?  We already pay for HipChat, wondered what about the HipChat price vs. Stride price.

HipChat was $2/user/month, Stride is $3/user/month. For a quick price check, take your current monthly cost and multiply by 1.5, more money but still worth it!

Casey Wise July 2, 2018

Thanks @Daniel Eads _unmonitored account_ - well darnit, at this time we're unable to secure a 50% price increase for potential value.  Thanks for the quick reply.
