How to set default alias for users in Stride

We'd really like to control the aliases for some of our users.  For example, somehow when I signed up my alias was set to tim while I signed up with the name timohty.  That works great for me, but we also have some users that it didn't happen for and they'd like to create short aliases for themselves and I can't figure out how to do it.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I can help. Here are the steps:

1. Click on the gear icon in the bottom lefthand corner.
2. Click on the 'profile' tab
3. Scroll down, you should see an 'edit profile' button under your avatar photo
4. Edit the 'nickname' field to choose your personal @mention or alias
