what does "remote branch to pull" mean

This widget could not be displayed.

it means which branch you want to pull  changes from server to your local branch.

it defaults to the current branch, but you may change it to some other branch and merge the changes from another remote branch to local branch. it is similar to merge.

alternatively you can right click on any branch and select "pull <any branch> into <current branch>".
