I had a similar problem. When I ran the installer with administrator rights, an error log appeared. When I ran the installer without administrator rights, the program worked, but was not installed. It seemed to me that the antivirus considered the installer suspicious. I disabled the antivirus and launched the installer without administrator rights and the program was installed normally.
I use windows 10 and avast antivirus. The installer is downloaded from the official site.

As an update for this question, we have just started the progressive rollout of Sourcetree v2.3.5.0 which includes a fix for this issue. You should be prompted to upgrade sometime over the next 14 days or, alternatively, you can download theupdate directly here: https://downloads.atlassian.com/software/sourcetree/windows/ga/SourceTreeSetup-2.3.5.0.exe

Have a good day!

Hi Tom, we had a user with a similar issue and he said that uninstalling .Net framework and then installing it again worked for him. Also, make sure Sourcetree is not currently running in Task Manager.

If you had a previous version of Sourcetree installed it could be that the uninstall hasn't cleared all the registry settings. You can go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features and make sure the older versions are removed, then reboot your system to make sure the uninstall is complete.

You can also try a clean install following the steps:

  1. Wipe Sourcetree preferences
  2. Uninstall Sourcetree (if it shows on the App&Features list)
  3. Backup then delete the directory below before proceeding with next step:
    • Navigate to C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local and delete Sourcetree & Sourcetree-Settings folder
    • Navigate to C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Atlassian and delete all Sourcetree Files/ folder.

If you're still unable to install it, please let us know so we can continue helping you.

Cheers,
Ana
