What is the process to upgrade and migrate data form SourceTree client 1.6.14 to 2.0.19.1

QMTSG August 4, 2017

What is the process to upgrade and migrate data form SourceTree client 1.6.14 to 2.0.19.1?

Client went from being single install path to user profile specific install path, so if we do an in place upgrade what versions do we need to uprade to arrive at 2.0.19.1 and will the local data be automatically be migrated to version 2.0.19.1?

Hi! For SourceTree 1.9 or older, uninstalling is necessary. From 1.10 onwards, uninstalling is no longer needed. If you decide to upgrade directly from 1.6.14 to 2.0.19.1, you'll need to uninstall the old version first. Once you uninstall, I recommend you to go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features and make sure the older SourceTree versions are removed and the registry settings are cleared. Then reboot your system to make sure the uninstall is complete.

The data should be migrated to the new version, although it's possible that the user might need to add his credentials again.

Hope this helps!
