What does the Fetch button do?

I am sorry in advance if this is a dumb question.  I have looked for a manual.  I have looked at atlassian.com for questions and answers.  If I need to go to the source code, let me know.

Fetch button retrieve all commits from all branchs from server’s repository

Instead of looking for SourceTree documentation, you should fully understand the versioning system you are using. The Git Book or Mercurial Book are good places to start.
