Sourcetree won't follow local repo

Recently, my sourcetree refuses to acknowledge actions that I take using git bash.  If I am on branch A in sourcetree and checkout a different branch manually in the terminal, Sourcetree still shows me on branch A, and will continue to show me on branch A until I restart sourcetree or change branches through the UI.

This widget could not be displayed.

Try to hit F5 while in SourceTree (also available in View > Refresh).

Cmd+r works, but this functionality used to be automatic.  How do I get it that way again?
