Sourcetree bookmarks sidebar disappears when closing active tab, even when sidebar is pinned

Windows, Sourcetree version 3.1.2

I use the bookmarks sidebar (ctrl+ B) to get a nice view of all my local repos.  Double clicking a repo here brings up a tab for the repo.  The sidebar offers the option to pin it, which I've done.  However, if I close the tab of whatever repo is active, the bookmarks sidebar disappears, even though I've pinned it.  This doesn't seem like intended behavior given the pin option.  Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong?

There are some improvements to this behavior going through beta testing currently.

Great, I will keep an eye out for updates then. Thanks.
