SourceTree 2.1.11 for Windows not able to start

Ricardo Guerra September 6, 2017

Hi there,

after installing 2.1.11 source tree is not able to start, the following error is displayed in the event log:

Could not load file or assembly 'UIAutomationTypes, Version=4.0.0.0,Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The module was expected to contain an assembly manifest.

Unistalled SourceTree and GIT several times even for prior versions and the issue remains.

Im running Windows 10.

Has anyone ran into this issue ?

Thanks in advance!

Ricardo

Hi Ricardo! Someone reported a similar issue before and after we looked at his log, it suggested a dll was missing or could not be loaded ('EncodingTools.dll' in his case).

It might be worth trying to re-install SourceTree to see if that repairs the installation.

This user performed a 'repair' and it fixed the issue. A clean install of SourceTree might also help, these are the steps to follow:

  1. Wipe SourceTree preferences
  2. Uninstall SourceTree (if it shows on the App&Features list)
  3. Backup then delete the directory below before proceeding with next step
    • Navigate to C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local and delete SourceTree & SourceTree-Settings folder
    • Navigate to C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Atlassian and delete all SourceTree Files/Folder.
  4. Download SourceTree and install it.

Let us know if this works for you! If you're still having problems, please send us the log.

Cheers,

Ana
