Installer .exe won't open

Those new to the Atlassian Community have posted less than three times. Give them a warm welcome!
Upon opening the installer .exe file, the splash screen appears for 1 second then disappears. I can't get SourceTree to install.
Event viewer shows two errors every time I try to open the installer .exe (for any recent version of SourceTree):
.NET Runtime Error Event ID 1026
Application Error, Event ID 1000
Note I have already tried:
removing/uninstalling files from C:\Program Files and %APPDATA%
