Dynamic DIFF doesn't work sometimes

When I select a file in sourcetree (from selected commit or pending), I usually see the changes in the lower right panel. The changes do NOT appear for a few files (but external diff works). The offending files are CPP ascii, like many that DO display differences. The same files behave the same way for all commits.

Found another reference to this problem here.

But neither changing Options-Diff nor changing the type of list in the left panel made any difference.
