Commit file as binary

How do I make SourceTree commit a file as a binary? Is there a way to manually do it in the GUI or are you supposed to use a .gitattributes file?

There shouldn't be any special steps necessary to commit a file as a binary - are you having some kind of problem with committing binary files?
