Why the Simplified Workflow cannot be set to prevent non-JIRA-admin users from creating new Statuses?

This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: Using the Simplified Workflow

The Simplified Workflow is amazing for letting normal users create their own workflows, with the status names they need.

However, I'd like to set a (non-existing) option to disable the creation of new statuses by users that are not JIRA administrators.

If you think it would be a good idea to add this option, please, vote for this feature request:

Simplified Workflow is a great feature in JIRA Agile and empowers teams to define their own process and change rapidly.   However, it ignores the JIRA Permission to create new workflow statuses (JIRA Admin permission).   This allows any user to add the necessary status to their board without requiring an Admin to assist.  ( Team Empowerment = Awesome)

However, there are some negative side effects of letting none Admin users create new status.

  • Misspellings cannot be corrected (correcting a spelling adds additional status to the system)
  • Organizational processes and governance cannot be enforced. (Cannot Define Standard terminology)
  • Obsolete Status cannot be deleted by normal users

I agree with your perspective that a permission should be added to enable non-admin users to create new workflow statuses .  As a  result of these limitations, we have disabled our team's ability to use simplified workflow.   the additional work generated for teams to clean up mistakes and the lack of enforcement of governance outweighed the benefits to the teams.  Organizationally, we all agree that allowing teams to create their own workflows from a list of approved status is acceptable.

I totally agree with your point of view. +1

If you've already got a Jira system with hundreds of projects using Simplified Workflow, is there any way to prevent them from creating more statuses?
