When connecting Crowd to Microsoft Active Directory, do we have to pull all the users from the LDAP?

Office Alias October 14, 2012

We would like to connect Crowd to our LDAP.

However, we don't want all of the users in the LDAP to be users in Crowd .
We have lawyers, managers, accountants, and several other people that will never use JIRA, Confluence, etc.

If we were to pull all of the users from Active Directory, we would have to upgrade the licenses we would have to end up getting: we don't want to do that.

Can we only pull specific user groups, or specific users into Crowd?
How will this affect the user-limit on our licenses?

Hi there,

You most certainly can limit the amount of users retrieved by Crowd from your LDAP user. This way, you can limit the licensed users for Crowd as Crowd count the licensed users by counting the amount of users that can login into Crowd or other application integrated to Crowd.

Please refer to the documentation below to limit the number of users from Crowd using search filter:

Hope it helps.

that link indicates how to restrict LDAP score for Apache Directory Studio, my question pertained to Microsoft Active Directory. Can we restrict LDAP Score with Microsoft Active Directory as well?

Hi there,

Actually the mentioned Apache Directory Studio is just the LDAP Editor Tool used to access and review your LDAP server which will also work for Microsoft Active Directory. The other information should provided is applicable for Microsoft AD.
