Using Javascript for Making Cascading field mandatory

I have a requirement where I am using Cascading Custom Fields. However there is one issue with this field that even if I keep it as Required field on the create Issue screen and do not select any thing in the dependant drop down box it allows me to create the issue. I want the user to selet values from both the drop downs before the issue is created. And if the user tries to create issue with out selecting a value in the dependanat drop down box then an alert should be shown.

Is there a way I can achieve this.
