Sprint planning Backlog doesn't show up Epic tasks from previous Sprint

Ruslan Dautkhanov December 26, 2012

We currently use JIRA OnDemand with GreenHopper (SCRUM). Also have Confluence product.

How to push a Sprint forward to a next Sprint?

Currently Epic type tasks don't show up in Plan tab of the Agile planning board.
We had some Epics in the previous Sprint and we still need to work on them on the current Sprint.

Please help - ASAP, if possible.

We had to contact Atlassian Support to resolve this issue.

The problem we had that, all issues were of Subtask type with parent task of Epic type.
JIRA doesn't show up these subtasks in Plan mode.

Solution. We converted subtasks to just tasks. And assigned Epic to these tasks through
drag&drop in Plan mode (not through task->subtask relationship).

Thank you everybody for your responses.

Hi Tagar,

If that's the case, you may consider to kick out these Epics in the pervious sprint from then include them in the current sprint, to do this, here are the steps:

1) Make sure 'Sprint' field is visible in the default screen.

2) You will need to know the ID number for the current sprint, you may check out this video to know how.

3) Open any of these epics in JIRA, replace the sprint field ID with the current sprint ID obtained previously.

Please try it out and let us know how it goes.

Cheers,

Omar

As I understand there is no concept of marking an Epic to a sprint in the new GreenHopper. What did you mean by 'we had some epics in previous sprint'? Did you mark the Epic as done using the menu option in GreenHopper? If yes, then do the following:

  • Add the custom field 'Epic Status' to the edit screen (usually the default screen)
  • Go to those Epics, edit them and change the value of that custom field to anything other than 'Done'.
