Problems with Users Imported from LDAP/Microsoft Active Directory

Eric Monse February 27, 2013

We set up a User Directory to connect to our Microsoft Active Directory. When we tested the remote directory connection, we got the following messages:

Test basic connection : Succeeded

Test retrieve user : Succeeded

Test get user's memberships with 0 groups retrieved. : Failed

Test retrieve group : Not performed

Test get group members. : Not performed

Test user can authenticate : Succeeded

After this, I could see that the AD users were imported into JIRA. But we can't log onto JIRA with those imported accounts. When I try to add one of the imported users to the group JIRA-users, we get the error message:

You cannot add user 'emonse' to group 'jira-users'. The user's directory is read only.

How can we proceed so that the imported AD users will be able to log into JIRA?

You can configure the connector to use 'Read only with local groups', and then specify the group that is included in JIRA Users permission. The user will then able to login.
