I have set up Jira so that users can't comment on closed issues. When they try and do so through the web interface, they see the Comment button greyed out. However, when they try and do so via e-mail, they just get no message back, nothing at all. This means that they think they have sent a comment to the issue, while they actually haven'.
Would it be possible to set up something so that if Jira sees an e-mail comment to a Closed issue, it notifies the commenter with a custom e-mail message?
