JIRA with multiple MS active directories

Andrey Rebrov May 31, 2012

Hello.

in our organisation we plan to move users from one domain to another one. It will be done in small groups about 10-20 user per batch. Users will be copied including their SIDhistory. When all users will be in new domain, old one will be switched off. So, what the best option to have two MS active directories that contains same user names? Now I see two options:

1) Wrap JIRA with Apache with WebSSO that will resolve conflicts

2) Use another directory to sync users

Hi Andrey,

If you are running JIRA 4.3 and above the method is to create a new directory from your "User Directories" menu. Please noted that all LDAP users to local group membership will be gone (out of the default group if any) in the new directory.

So I think the following method would be the best for you:

  1. Backup JIRA instance for safety precaution
  2. Copy and paste your users to the new domain ( Do Not Switched off the domain yet)
  3. Create a new directory pointing to the new domain
  4. Position it at the upper order on your "User Directory"
  5. Try to see if there are any new issue with the new configured directory
  6. If nothing wrong, switched off the old domain

Hope it helps.
