JIRA WAR tar.gz 5.1.X won't start even once => java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/atlassian/jira/ajsmeta/HtmlMetadataManager

We've been installing JIRA 5.1.6 on Linux and we've got this issue :

2012-11-30 13:13:20,092 http-8080-5 ERROR 500ErrorPage.jsp Exception caught in 500 page org.apache.jasper.JasperException: javax.servlet.ServletException: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/atlassian/jira/ajsmeta/HtmlMetadataManager

Here are the successful steps before the error:

-Build the war : ok

-deploy on tomcat 6.0.18 : ok

-running ./startup.sh : ok

-Entering licence and administratr account : ok

-First connexion with administrator account : KO

Did anyone ever get this kind of error?

Thank you in advance for your answers.

Best Regards,

Johann NG

Hi Johann,

May I know if the problem occured after you upgraded JIRA to 5.1.6? If this is true, then perhaps the problem could be related to Tomcat work directory. Hence, can you kindly try to clear the work directory, restart Tomcat (the removed files will be recompiled again) and see if it helps?

I hope that this will help.

Hi Ahmad,

Thanks! I had to delete the Tomcat work directory, it works fine now.
