It is hard for average user to understand the meaning of calculated fields in TimeReports Gadget

Hi Time Reports for JIRA Cloud Dev,

When a TimeTracking gadget is printed on dashboard, I've understanding issue about percentages figures. What are they representing ? I tried to do some math to understand those values but it was unsuccessful. 

Can you please give some explanation ? I might lack some basic project management skills.

Could you please provide some brief ELI5 answers about the meaning of each fields and their calculation ?

• Original Estimation. Seems easy. The sum of all estimated issue in an epic.
• Est. Time Remaining. What is this ? It doesnt seems to be Orig Est minus Time Spent. How is it calculated ?
• Time spent. Seems easy too. The sum of worklog in an epic.
• Variance. What is this ? How is it calculated ?
• Progress. What is this ? How is it calculated ?

Hi Thomas,

• Original Estimation.  The sum of all estimated issue in an epic. Note, if Sum Sub-Tasks is checked
• Est. Time Remaining. It's crurrent estimation in Estimate field, it may be edited, and it may be sum of all issues in the epic, if Sum Sub-Tasks is on.
• Time spent. The sum of worklog in an epic. Yes, but it's Timespent field also.
• Variance. Is Original Estimation - Estimated Time Remaining.
• Progress. Is Timespent / ( Estimated Time Remaining + Timespent), so it's 100% when Estimated Time Remining is 0.
