I've read that there is a field "CurrentSprint" that can be used for dashboards and rapid boards...

but when I try to use it, JIRA shoots the error "Field 'CurrentSprint' does not exist or you do not have permission to view it.".

Does this field actually exist? If so, how can I use it correctly?

I use the following filter to find non-closed items that are in a sprint but have no Due Date set:

sprint IS NOT empty AND duedate is EMPTY AND status in (Open, "In Progress", Reopened) ORDER BY Rank, priority

Since sprints cannot be closed if there are open issues left in them, you can only pull up items from your current sprint. That being said, you can add a project or category filter before that, and if you are stacking sprints in a project you might have to wok a little harder.
