This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: Chat history

I can't find a reference to Archive functionality in the documentation.
Would Archive give me the ability to preserve the chat history for later reference? The intent is to transcribe its contents into a Confluence page where the knowledge represented in the chat history is shared and preserved for future reference. Actually that would be a great HipChat feature: Archive to Confluence
Thanks for the clarification.

Archive would work for that purpose. When you archive a room, users are no longer allowed to join it to chat. The history of the room, however, is preserved. It is selectable from the history search screen, it can be viewed in the rooms list in the admin UI, etc.
The data contained within the room is still available in the same manner as an unarchived room.
