In the Mac OS X HipChat client (version 4.0.6) when I switch chat rooms the messages at the bottom are not automatically scrolled to. When I switch to a public room then back to a private conversation, the private conversation's message window is 1 message from the end.
Hi all,
This behavior is a bug, and definitely not intended functionality.
The upcoming 4.29 release should have a fix for this issue - if you'd like to monitor progress, keep an eye on this ticket: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/HCPUB-97

Problem still exists in 4.29.0 (Mac). The bug is marked as low priority. To me this is a really basic, essential thing to get wrong in a chat app, and should be considered a major problem. To the user it's no different than not delivering the messages at all, unless you think we should all be in the habit of trying to scroll down every single time we switch to a different chat, just to see if there are hidden messages.

For what it's worth... I found this, which appears to address a similar problem:
https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/HCPUB-97
However, it's closed. I added a comment to it and included the link to this question.

Atlasssian please increase the priority on this bug from Low, this bug is very annoying and I miss messages constantly because of it.

Wow I've just joined a team that uses HipChat (last company used slack). The fact that even when it does scroll to the bottom it takes a couple seconds to do so after a message comes in is super annoying. LIke, rage-inducingly annoying. I keep reaching for the mouse because I want to see what I / they say and get there just as it autoscrolls.

+1 to all of the above with Version 4.28.1.718 on Mac OS X El Capitan. I also get random ghost scrolling where HipChat will scroll about 50 pixels up. This occurs intermittently when HipChat window is inactive/activated. Very strange behavior.

is the Atlassian team working on this bug? because it's not only annoying, but i've missed many, many messages since the room doesn't scroll to show new messages when i'm not viewing the latest message.
