Find lowest # rank (highest ranked) issue via REST/CLI

I'm looking for a way to use either CURL / CLI to find the lowest # rank (most important) issue in a project. The only way I can see to do it is to retrieve all the issues in that project, sorted by Global Rank - but it's timing out (probably because there are too many records to return.)

I'm also surprised that issues which are closed still have a global rank (still have any rank at all, actually.)

Is there an easy way to do this?

Have two JQL, one with Ascending and one with Descending Global Rank and call the search REST api with maxResults = 1 ?
