Copying A Board

This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: Customizing the issues in a project

When I copy a board, any stories/issue I delete are deleted from the original. How do I make sure they are actually duplicated, not just shared so that the new boards stories and issues are separate from the ones they are copied from?

Boards do not contain issues, they are a view of a selection of issues.  You can have many boards looking at the same issues.  Your delete of an issue removes it from JIRA, so any boards that used to include it will have nothing to show.
