Can I configure Versions to ignore Story Point estimates on Epics?

Our board is configured to use story point estimation, and with this in place, the Version progress panel appears to sum up the story point estimates of all related issues. Is there any way to configure the version progress panel so that it ignores Story Point Estimates on Epics? (Or should I just add a custom field to hold my Epic level Estimate?)

I ran into the same problem.  I think your Epic Story Point field is a reasonable workaround.

One other option is to define a filter that returns 'stories from fully decomposed epics AND epics that are not fully decomposed'  (We have custom workflow states to make the JQL easier)

You can then configure an extra agile board based on this filter and its version & release reports will avoid the double accounting
