Are the dates for the epics stored somewhere in JIRA where we can report on them?

Are the dates for the epics that are cset via the Easy Agile Roadmap stored somewhere in JIRA where we can report on them?  Either through a JQL or via an API.  Ideally we would like to call a JIRA API to get the dates of the JIRA epics as they are on the Easy Agile Roadmap.  We could then do some reporting using this epic+dates data in a secondary system.  Thank you!

Hi Larry, great question and one we've received a bit recently.

This is not possible today, and we have a story on the backlog to support this approach.

For context:

  • there is no JIRA API we can use to create the custom fields and get them on the right screens, so
  • today we store the date information against the associated agile board as properties (internal fields)

Our plan is to provide a global configuration option in JIRA to switch from the internal fields to standard JIRA custom fields. A System Administrator would be able to enable this and select the two fields, and those fields would have to be present on the screens used by Epics on the various projects.

I've made a note to follow up here and let you know when we release this feature.

Thanks Larry.

Hi Nick,

Any progress with exposing the Epic dates as custom fields in JIRA?

We are looking for ways to share the Easy Agile Roadmap in Confluence and this would be one option as the Confluence calendar allows to set custom field dates for JIRA issues.

Thanks, Chris

Hi @Agile Chris@Larry Johnson3,

We've been around the loop on this for several months now. One of the aspects that kept coming up in customer conversations was that product managers would create multiple epics for the same 'thing', for instance they would have ABC-123: Onboarding v1 and ABC-124: Onboarding v2. In that scenario showing the start and end dates on the JIRA View Issue page would have made sense.

However, we've decided to take a different approach. Our upcoming 3.0 release will allow a product manager to show a single epic several times on the roadmap. This means that the product manager no longer needs to create multiple epics and shuffle the 'not done' issues from one epic to another. For example:

EAR - Small Epic Copy.gif

As this will mean multiple start/end dates for a single epic we can not use the existing custom date fields in JIRA. Not to say we won't show the dates on the JIRA View Issue page in the future, but that isn't on the backlog for now.

Eager to get your thoughts - hello@easyagile.com and we're at Atlassian Summit in San Jose next week if you want to meet face to face.

Thanks,
Nick
