Closing out an alert stops all actions

William Butt April 28, 2021

Hello,

As per this guide (Close and delete an alert | Opsgenie | Atlassian Support).

This one basically states that Closing is conclusive; meaning all necessary actions have been taken.

So to confirm, if you just close out the alert, no further actions (alerts) will occur correct? This will stop the alert process?

It may be a silly question however, I'm being informed that you must acknowledge first and then close.

Thanks

Hi @William Butt !

Yup that's right. Once an alert is closed, the only other action that can be taken is to "delete" the alert.

Closing an alert will stop the notification/escalation process.

Hi @William Butt ,

If an alert is closed, "Recipients [who were notified of the alert] will be notified when an alert is closed" like that document incidents. But no other notifications will sent, and no other actions will be possible on the alert (besides deleting the alert).

Hope this helps! Let us know if you have any other questions.

A user does not necessarily need to acknowledge an alert before closing it, but acknowledging an alert can halt notifications.
