Botron's Office Stories: In food we trust

There is one single truth about life at our office: We Love Food!

Yes, I know that this is inevitable: food=life. But really - we LOVE food. Lunchtime is a holy ritual, picking the right place for lunch a critical task and the person who is skipping lunch - a traitor!

Almost everyone here is an expert about a specific meal or food group: we have cake lovers, vegetarian meals specialists, ribeye steak authority, and a real arbiters of taste (which make every food conversation a World War X).

What is so interesting about this topic that can justify the time you'll spare reading it?

I am answering right away: our food Evolution

The Beginning

You know that time of year when someone from your colleagues has a birthday or is celebrating something and is bringing tons of sweets, gourmet cakes, chocolates, muffins and so on and so forth? Same here. And boy we eat like it's the last meal on Earth!

Then the sweet tooth won the war - birthdays, name days, newborns, anniversaries - we celebrated everything. "I heard that you have a new pet - a cake!" "You spoiled the movie - a cake!" "You even exist - CAKE!"

For example - our latest Hackathon muffins (millions of calories each!)

The Problem

Well, all the cake eating started to be more "visible" on our summer bodies, and the topic became a little boring. Cakes are staying in the fridge for more than two days, even thrown away sometimes. A Problem was born.

The Solution

I don't remember who started this first - a colleague of mine or me, but some time ago, our first homemade meal arrived! After all, we are pretending to be food experts, but buying a cake from the store and then eating it it's not quite an expertise. So we started the New Era, the Food Evolution in Botron's office, and we are enjoying it! Sharing a meal that you prepared, especially for your colleagues, is an experience that goes beyond the regular office life. People are getting closer to each other, there are jokes and laugh at the kitchen, recipes flying around, pats on the shoulders, and sounds like "Mmmmm," "Oooh," "You made this!? With your hands".

Putting time and effort in cooking something is so more valuable than spending some cash for store-bought cakes and chocolates, and the people appreciate that. Needless to say after this tradition settled, no leftovers for the fridge, no sad faces about the summer bodies - our homemade creations are always with the best possible ingredients (the healthy trend, of course).

Time for some MasterChef photos!

Yuri, our Ninja Hacker, and his girlfriend made a strawberry cheesecake and cake for his birthday. So delicious!

Yuliana made us two kinds of Banitsa (sweet and salty) for her first day in Botron!

Ivaylo, CMJ's Principal Software Engineer and his lovely wife, made this unbelievable oreo cake and sweet banitsa variation.

Peter G. is a real Master of Arts in cooking - the best flan and N1 creme brulee! No photos of them available, sorry :(

Irena, our Managers wife, sent us homemade bread. Can't even explain the feeling! Such beauty and taste.

And me, of course, the Grumpy one :). Cooking is a favorite hobby of mine, so I'm always trying to beat the competition. Not even close beating these guys! I never thought that there is so much potential in our office!

Some closing words

My advice: try this in your workspace. If you want to cheer someone up or make a difference in some company occasion - a little homemade food never killed nobody.
Smile :)

Cheers to that!

@Teodora _Old Street Solutions_Tempo_ that's amazing!  Our company actually went through a very similar "food cycle".

It's awesome to see that there are more of us out there in the world!
