Sum of 3 fields into a 4th

Jerry Ward December 20, 2019

We want to use 3 fields with numbers in them combined into a 4th to rank bugs.  Is there a way to automatically sum 3 custom fields into a 4th?

Ideally the 3 fields would contain a number and text that explains what that number means in a drop-down.  Something like:

5 - System Down

4 - Major impact

3 - Some functionality lost

2 - minor problem

1 - Trivial

You should try the Automation app and capture the changes of the 3 source fields, then update the 4th one.

If it doesn't help, then you can try ScriptRunner. It can solve this use case, but it will take a little Groovy scripting.

Yes @Jerry Ward ,

You can utilize Scripted Fields by ScriptRunner.

Take a look at the documentation.

Can you do scripting without buying an plug-in like ScriptRunner or Automation?  The pricing for these plug-ins is based on the total number of Jira users, and in my case only 1 team will use this.

Automation has a free version, you could check that out.
