How to incorporate story/project/epic sponsorship?

I currently require business sponsorship (ie a contract of sorts) prior to any engineering work.  I use a different software for this purpose, but I'm looking to incorporate this function into JIRA.  Any ideas welcome for capturing a story/project/epic sponsorship within JIRA?

Hi @Eric Esterkin

To clarify, you are looking for a method to assign a sponsor to a Story/Epic/Project within JIra, is that correct?

If that is the case, for the issue types you create a custom user picker field named Sponsor and apply this to any issue type. 

For a Jira Project, I would suggest using Jira's Project Lead user picker in the project setting > details page. Or use a Confluence Space to document project sponsors on a Space's Overview page.

Thank you!  Was hoping to stay away from custom fields...but this is certainly an option.
