You'll need to explain what your workflow issue actually is, and why you think JSU is going to fix it

This error but Jira Misc Workflow Extensions plugin worked. We do not want to pay though really.

2015-03-14 14:18:11,820 ajp-bio-127.0.0.1-8010-exec-11 ERROR scwg5wv4 858x330x1 13r1z7q 128.125.253.76 /secure/CommentAssignIssue.jspa [atlassian.jira.workflow.OSWorkflowManager] Caught exception while attempting to perform action 301 from workflow 30222 on issue 'CM-620'

That doesn't really tell us what the problem is. All I can tell from the error message is that you're trying to transition an issue and failing for some reason. There's no descrption of why it's failing, what you have set up or why you think a swap to another addon might fix it (it's likely to be a mis-configuration, and the reason that a swap fixes is because you have to re-do the config, and get it right)

It is when the user tries to change the status of an issue. The error the user sees when pushes the button is:

“Could not load FunctionProvider class”

Ok, so there's something on the transition that is calling something and that is failing. Could not load FunctionProvider Class usually implies that you have removed an addon that the transition needs. Does it tell you what class is missing?
