copying installed plugins from 4.4 to 5.2

Do I need to use UPM to install plugins when I am upgrading JIRA and migrating to new server? Or can I just simply copy the jar files (if compatible) to the new installed plugins folder?

Please do not copy the plugins and it is always recommended to install them using UPM. Incompatible plugins are one major cause of issues during upgrade.

It is best to use the UPM if the plugin is a version 2 plugin. Version 1 plugins will need to copied. Make sure read all the upgrade notes because you might need to move through other inbetween versions as well.
