can't delete test step in Zephyr

I am unable to delete test steps in Zephyr, the browser hangs and I get a DELETE method error from the rest API. I see the following in the Web Inspector console:

I have deployed to /opt on the Linux server and changed ownership of the home logs, temp and work installation directories and changed owner on the home directory as instructed in the install guide.

What is causing access denied for Zephyr here? is it the DB - although I granted all privileges to the jira user that I am running the DB under.
