You can use the 'issue type mapping' setting in Xray configuration to tell Xray which issue types you consider to be 'defects'.
Read about that here: https://confluence.xpand-addons.com/display/XRAY/Issue+Type+Mapping
I assume you have an issue type called 'Defect'. Map your 'Defect' issue type to tell Xray it should consider it as a defect. Then, when you create an defect from a test execution, Xray will launch the issue create screen with the 'Defect' type pre-selected.
I believe Xray just uses the standard JIRA issue creation screen, so if you have other issue types available in you project, they will still be listed. But at least the correct one will be picked already.
If you already know all this, perhaps you are simply making a suggestion for an improvment to Xray. This is not really the best place for that.
You should head over to Xpand Add-ons issue tracker and vote/comment/watch the improvement/suggestion: https://jira.xpand-addons.com/browse/XRAY-1999
(Xpand Add-ons is the vendor of Xray)
You can also contact Xpand Add-ons via one of the methods mentioned here: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/vendors/31085/xpand-add-ons
I hope this helps a bit. I will add more tags to your question help others (including the vendor) find.
Thanks Sam, we already have Defect pre selected. I was just wondering if there is a way to ensure that the other issue types should not be visible - guess I am not the only one.
The Issue you have listed above (1999) is what we are looking for, Will voote and watch for that one!
