Structure Export (to Excel) - is it possible to export only "visible" part of the structure?

Laura Savičienė May 11, 2015

Hi,

Is it possible to export only a part of the structure - for example, only the levels that are currently expanded and visible in the structure view, and no deeper levels?

Sometimes, with big structures, we are interested only in aggregated values of the top 3-5 levels, and having every lowest-level issue makes further analysis in Excel inconvenient.

Thank You for the answer,

Laura

Hi Laura,

Sorry for the delayed reply. Could you please provide some more details creating an issue in our JIRA or just send me an email? Perhaps this is something that eventually could be done in the Structure - we can try to think of some workaround for now, and if that is not possible - take this into account in Structure 3.0. Your feedback would be really valuable for us.

Thank you,

Eugene

Hi Laura,

The resulting Excel has collapsible nodes. Why not just collapse the parts you don't want to see? Can you please provide an example, when you would want not to have the lower levels at all?

Thanks,

Eugene

Hi Eugene, We are really sometimes interested only in summed values (which structure does very well), and not interested in what they consist of. We do not want to only "see" those summed values, we want to further analyze them. More specific examples would involve too much explaining how we use structure for financial data, but the managers sometimes want to experiment with some scenarios, that would involve masive changes in (big) structures, which would be impractical. They think they could use Excel for such cases, but think of even something as simple as summing over a range of rows - if those are collapsed rows, you cannot use range, you have to identify each cell individually to not include lower levels in the sum. And if you want something a bit more complex, a simple sumif becomes an array formula. Regards, Laura
