Should not be able to Start progress sub-task until parent task is Started.

Hi,

I need the S_JQL for this requirement using Structure validator

I have prepared something

  • S-JQL Query: parent not in [status not in (Started)]

But its not working as expected.

Thanks.

Do I understand it correctly that you are performing a workflow transition on a sub-task issue (in the JIRA sense — an issue of type Sub-Task), the parent issue of which (in the JIRA sense) is not Started, and you are expecting this transition to fail, which you don't see?

If that's right, please check that both the parent issue and the sub-task are contained in the default structure for their project, such that the sub-task is a sub-issue of its parent issue (in the Structure sense, i.e., it is below the parent issue in the hierarchy)?

Thanks Igor for prompt reply.

Here is the validator. I do not see Structure restricting the transition.

Also note i am using same workflow for Task and Sub-task

The transition requires the following criteria to be valid

Start the Parent task first..

    • Structure: The default structure of the issue's project
    • S-JQL Query: parent not in [status not in (Started)]
    • If the Issue Is Not Added to the Structure: Allow transition
    • Run as User: Project lead

By "not working as expected", do you mean that it is possible to perform the transition on a sub-issue even when the parent issue in structure is not started?

The query itself looks good, so something else should be the problem. Could you post a screenshot of your validator settings?
