Need to create & relate issue in another project

Bernd W Neumann March 1, 2018

Hi!

Happily using Project Automation and now have a need to create an issue in a different project and relate it to the current one.

It explicitly says that issues can/will only be created in current project, but that wouldn't work for us...

Hi Bernd,

This should definitely be possible.  The easiest way to do this would be to use global or multi project rule for this (see https://docs.codebarrel.io/automation/overview/concepts.html#global-vs-project-rules).

Your rule would be setup something like this:

  • Trigger: Anything really - depends on your use case
  • Create issue with other project selected
    • In this create issue form add the 'Linked issues' field and link it back to the trigger issue (already an option in dropdown)

Please note for this to work, you need to have the 'Linked issues' field available on the create screen in the selected project and issue type. If that's not the case, then you may have to use the explicit 'Link issues' action from Automation for Jira (or add the field to the create screen in Jira).

You rule in that case would look like this:

  • Trigger: Anything really - depends on your use case
  • Create issue with other project selected
  • Related issue action with "Most recently created" issue selected
    • Link issue action and link this created issue back to the 'Trigger issue'

Hope that helps!

Cheers,
  Andreas
