Multiple Choice of Approvers

Novum Bank Limited January 19, 2015

Hi,

We are testing the Approval plugin, however we need your assistance.

We have created a workflow for multiple issues. However, when a ticket is open, we require the agent handling the ticket to decide himself which approver must approve the request. As it currently is, when we map several approvers to a transition, all of them need to approve, as we cannot allow the agent to select one.

We also tried creating multiple transitions and mapped a different approver to each transition, however, this is too complex to do it for all transition on all issues.

Is there a way to have the approvers mapped to a transition work with an 'OR' operator, rather than 'AND', and allow the assignee to decide which approver must be selected?

As first, I think that can be useful to clarify the following aspects:

  • a set of approving users can be mapped to a transition work with an 'OR' operator by creating one Approval configured by selecting multiple users (by holding the CTRL button) or one/multiple user group/s or one/multiple project role/s. All of them will be notified for an approval request but it's required that only one of them approves the work
  • the authorized users can customize the issue approval configuration by clicking on the 'Define Approval' button. The users authorized to 'Define Approvals' are: the Project lead and the users belonging to the Project Role (Administrators).

Based on your specific scenario, I see two alternative configurations allowing you to reach the goal:

  • create an Approval for each Approver and assign the Project Role (Administrators) to the mentioned users: it allows the users to define case by case the approver/s
  • create one Approval configured by selecting multiple users (or group/s or project role/s): it allows the user to obtain the approval when at least one of the approver approves.

The first configuration seems to be more pertinent with your requirements.
The second configuration has the advantage that the user asking for the approvation doesn't need to manage each time the 'define approvals' (and he doesn't need to be authorized to 'define approvals') but it has the gap that all the users configured on the Approval are notified.

I hope it helps.
Regards
