Jira Plug-in upgrade guarantee

Is there any guarantee that a Jira plug-in that you use in Jira version 6.08 will keep up with the new versions of Jira in the future (atlassian owned or not)

AFAIK, no, unless specified otherwise in the plugin's Terms of Service, if any.

Not really. You can use the stable APIs to reduce the impact but that might change in future major releases. The changes are minimal though ever since stable APIs were introduced (JIRA 5.0)
