The JIRA Clone and Move Plugin enables you to clone and move an issue (which could be of any issue type such as task) to another project. The plugin does not provide the functionality to clone/copy a project.

Some additional third party plugins that can be used to clone/copy issues:

BulkClone - copies a set of issues based on a filter

JIRA to JIRA Issue Copy - allows you to copy issues between projects or JIRA instances.

Clone Plus Plugin for JIRA - provides enhanced clone actions with customization enablers to support many use cases and workflow requirements

If you are looking to clone or copy an entire JIRA project you would want to consider what's called the JIRA Command Line Interface. The JCLI is an application run on your local machine that allows for automation of JIRA and inclusion of JIRA content as part of other automation. After installing JCLI you'll find the cloneProject action to be a straightforward function.

An alternative to the JCLI would be the Script Runner Plugin. You could use the Copy project functionality (tested from 3.13 to 4.2.4) under Built-In Scripts. This would create a new project based on an existing project by copying the following:

  • Schemes
  • Role memberships
  • Custom field configurations
  • Optionally, versions and component
  • Optionally, all issues and their attachments in the source project.
  • Certain Greenhopper constructs, such as version hierarchies, board templates etc
  • Filters and dashboards that begin with the project key

On a side note we currently have an open improvement request here - JRA-7020 to allow administrators to have a project template that can be copied each time a new project is selected.

Hope that helps!!!
