Looking for a way to manage product specifications. Today we use MSexcel to maintain electrical product specifications. Specs need to be managed properly with access control. Every time spec is changed we want all the stakeholders to be notified. We are trying to see if there is a way replace the Excel with JIRA, confluence and any other market place tools. Does any have any recommendation.
Replacing MS Excel with... basically anything... is a calling to strive for.
Anyway, assuming you don't have any weird macros or the like in Excel, the tables function in Confluence does a marvelous job of tables and if you add the Bob Swift Advanced Tables Macro you can really spiff them up. Going beyond that, if you need tracked and managed requirement numbers in a tool that will also support a requirements matrix AND also allow direct hooks into JIRA, take a long look at Requirements Yogi. We have it and like it a lot.
Pages created in Confluence can have quite fine grained access controls for read and/or write and you can set a list of watchers for each page discretely so they get an update every time a page changes.
This is a great example of the power of Confluence - try using the page Create button and select the <<Product Requirements>> page layout template
