Is it possible to freeze a Structure

Wayne Wylupski February 20, 2014

We'd like the ability to 'freeze' portions of a structure, if not the whole thing -- that is prevent the issues from being moved around by accident. The use case is this: You as a manager set up a structure representing a project, and you don't want to accidently move sections due to an accidental swipe with the mouse.

I know you can remove require the use of 'Edit' permission, but this would mean you'd have to come up with a way of working where you'd have to remove the privilege from yourself and others. Is there any other way, preferably from the structure itself?

Hello Wayne,

As you say, one way is to remove permissions on the structure. To be able to restore them, you can have a separate user account that will retain the permissions.

Another thing I can think of is using Dashboard gadget. There's an option in the gadget configuration, "allow changes". You can create a separate dashboard with a structure gadget taking up the whole page width. Note that gadget functionality is somewhat limited (for example, there's no search).

Yet another way to force read-only interface is to view a structure in history mode. (This is also a way to investigate and recover from accidental changes). Click the history button and view the latest or any previous version of the structure.

Hope this helps!
Igor
