This seems like a basic question but I have not been able to find a complete answer. We have tickets within JIRA that time is logged against. We then need the time rolled up or aggregated in a certain way. For example, suppose there are 15 tickets within JIRA for a given project. We typically set up some "parent" tickets with a Blocked-By relationship such that the 15 tickets are divided among 3 categories of Design, Implementation, and Testing. We do this to make it faster to find the tickets within the system. What we would like to do is have a way to roll up or aggregate the hours for the 7 tickets under Implementation into one place. Or the 3 tickets for design or the 5 tickets for testing. But there doesn't seem to be an easy way to do this. We used to use Structure, which allowed for some type of roll up, but we had to stop using it for other reasons.
So the simple question is how can we roll up hours to a parent, whether through a report or the usage of APIs and dumping it to MS Excel?
If you are sorting the tickets with a JIRA custom field you can include it in the XML export. It is possible to import the XML into excel and pivot the tables if desired.
