How do you get issues to be sub-tasks for JIRA Structure? The documentation does a poor job

I need to know have to set up a custom structure using the JIRA Structure plug-in, however the documentation does a poor job of explaining how to set one up.

Any directions or resources on how to use would be greatly appreciated.

Also, can you plan time for individual members and link it down to worklog attributes? For example,  a team member has 20 hours to development and 20 hours to SIT testing. Our worklogs use dynamic attributes depending on the work type you choose. These, for example, would be selected as a work activity development or SIT testing is the user selects a work type as new development. We need to be able to track our hours to these phases. Will structure allow for this?

Hello Andrea,

If there are parent issues in a structure and they are linked in Jira to their sub-issues, you can add their sub-issues to the structure by using an Extend Generator. For that you would need to click the ‘Automation’ button, then the ‘+’ next to it, select Extend on the list of Generators and then Linked Issues… . Then you can select the type of link that connects parents issues and their sub-issues and then click Apply. For adding sub-issues of Epics, you should use the Extend ‘Stories Under Epics’ Generator instead.

Parent issues can be added to the structure in the first place by using the Insert Generator - select, for instance, JQL query in its pre-setting and type the query for all of the issues you want to be in the structure.

As for the worklog dynamic attributes - it is rather complex for Structure. Could you please tell us what plugin you use for logging work of individual users? Maybe we could come up with some options here to suggest once we are able to check this plugin and see what can be done with it.
