How do I import backlog items into story map?

I have created a map and set synchronisation to yes and specified the project and jql for backlog items but there is nothing showing when I try to view the map. It does not seem to import the backlog items.

you have to either select a project or to enter a jql. Does you jql produces  result set if you test it in standard JIRA search?

try a jql like this:

project = "your project" and type in (Epic,Story)
