Is it possible to create an automation to autofill the component field when a new story has been created in a particular board?
We have a project with multiple teams and identify the teams with a component. The components are are connected to the board filter and as such work efficiently.
Only thing which does not work user friendly is the following:
When a new story has been created and the component field is not filled it wont be showing in the board. I tried looking at the project automations but could not find a way to automate this as I cant find a condition to match create from board.
Hi @Floor Verschure - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
Yes, you can easily add a Component to and issue when it is created, using an Automation For Jira rule. Do you need help with that?
Or do you have a different more specific question/scenario?
Yes, As mentioned I would like to have the trigger created based on the board which is used to create the story as the boards are utilizing these components to identify the teams.
Is this possible?
So
- if issue is created from board X assign component X
- if issue is created from board Y assign component Y

Well, triggers are not really based on Boards. Boards are based on Filters and the Filters are some how tied back to projects they are associated with.
All of that to say that issues are always created against Projects and Components are associated with Projects. So your rule will look something like:
Rule details identify the project or projects to be fired by the rule.
Create issue trigger - which will fire for the project(s) in the Rule Details.
Condition - this is probably where you want to use the filter from one of the boards to identify the exact issue
Edit issue action - select the Components field and the value based on the Condition in the previous step.
You can use an If/then Condition to include both board filters in the same Rule.
