shared steps are not supported yet. But I would like to use such a feature to avoid duplicates or redundant information. It also could save a lot of maintenance work on testcases.  

Is this already planned for a future release?

Regarding the possibility that you want, currently, that is not possible. However, we have this Suggestion already reported XRAY-4364. This will enable to support modular Tests by allowing testers to compose Tests that "call" other Test cases from Manual Test Steps.
